Playlist for March 17 – 30, 2025
Quick playlist highlights: This is the second week that I’m using the new playlist format. From now on, instead of making a new playlist each week, I’m going to have one single playlist that is continuously updated. I’ll keep the 100 most recently added songs on the playlist (so if I add 15 one week, that means the oldest 15 will be removed).
– Mortal Reminder– “Crocodile Tears”
How do these guys only have 3,000 monthly listeners?! They just put out a sick debut album last year, and they are super similar to Thrown (which somehow almost have 1 million monthly listeners). If Mortal Reminder sticks with it, there’s no way they don’t get bigger. This is like finding a penny stock and just waiting for it to blow up.
– Volumes – “Sidewinder”
Nice, always happy to hear heavy Volumes. The aggression paired with the black and white aesthetics reminds me a lot of “Holy Water.” Not sure if that symbolizes anything, but the chunky chugs are fun.
– Invent Animate and Silent Planet – “Armageddon Eyes”
The long awaited joint EP from Invent Animate and Silent Planet is finally here. I still feel like Invent Animate’s parts were recorded underwater, and I think I’m souring on Marcus Vik’s singing, but that might be the mix’s fault too. It sounds like he’s trying so hard, but there’s just no impact – might as well be whispering. Garrett sounds insane, but he can’t carry the whole thing. Unfortunately, I don’t think this stands up to the other greats like the joint EP in 2016 from Northlane and In Hearts Wake.
– Deafheaven – “Doberman”
What a phenomenal comeback from a band that completely went off the rails in 2021 with ‘Infinite Granite.’ I didn’t expect them to be able to achieve such great heights again. ‘Sunbather’ is one of the most important blackgaze albums of all time so it’s hard to fairly measure anything against it, but wow, this is up there. A surprisingly tasteful combination of previous darkness with the polished aspects of ‘Infinite Granite.’
– Foxcult – “The Emerald Grove”
I haven’t really jumped on the Foxcult hype train, but featuring Galleons piqued my interest. Kind of underwhelmed after all is said and done though.
– Memphis May Fire – “Love Is War”
The new Memphis May Fire album is finally here. To be honest, I’m going to have a hard time forcing myself to check it out. The songs have been good, and I like their return to metalcore, but I can’t stand the way they drip fed us EIGHT singles over the course of the last 11 months. The album only has 10 songs, and one of the two that wasn’t released as a single was an interlude. So they basically released one song per month for a year and then said “hope you enjoy the album” at the end of it all. That doesn’t make me want to check it out – I already heard 50% of it six months ago.
– Molotov Solution – “Devour The Children”
After a 14 year gap in releases, Molotov Solution is back with a new EP. It’s great hearing Nick Arthur take up the mantle again. If you like Fit For An Autopsy or Thy Art Is Murder, you’ll like this.
– A Killer’s Confession – “In Case Of Emergency”
I’m not familiar with the Mushroomhead drama, but apparently there was a falling out and now A Killer’s Confession is kind of like Mushroomhead 2.0? Pretty good single overall.
– Ten56 – “Pig”
This one is giving huge Emmure vibes. Love it.
– Underoath – “Devil”
The new Underoath album just came out. I need to give it a full listen, but I’m not liking what I’ve heard so far. I might be out of the loop, but I just don’t get the appeal of this sound – I genuinely don’t know anyone who would purposely choose to put this on. It’s just a mix of electronic nonsense…like honestly…how did Underoath get here.
– A Day To Remember – “Lebron”
Saw this coming from a mile away. It’s ok Underoath, ADTR’s new album somehow found a way to be 100 times worse.
