Playlist for July 15 – 21
Quick playlist highlights:
– Starting the playlist off on a heavier note for once, Gaerea continues to impress. Their last two singles have been slightly more accessible than their 2022 album (which came in at #14 on my end of the year list). I’ve been less interested in extreme metal bands lately, but I’m liking the recent shift. Very powerful imagery. New album titled ‘Coma’ is out October 25.
– Left To Suffer‘s new album is coming out on August 30. Not sure how I feel about the singing in this one. The “give them death” chants are super repetitive. The saving grace is Taylor’s screams. Very dynamic. Reminds me of Fronz from Attila at times.
– Finally, Stray View has delivered the sound I’ve been waiting for. This is Dave Escamilla’s new band (he was the screamer in Crown The Empire). The other singles have been fine, but I genuinely think that all this band has to do to be successful is copy the heavy aspects from Crown The Empire’s first album. They’re probably trying to prove that they’re true artists capable of forging their own path, but that’s for suckers. Dave, the people yearn for heaviness. Crown The Empire has abandoned their original sound – now is your time to reclaim ‘The Fallout.’
– Distant is one of my favorite new era deathcore bands. Their 2023 album was massive. My review of it aptly called the band “colossal deathcore.” Still very fitting.
– Our Hollow, Our Home seems to be gearing up for a new album. I’d put these guys in the same category as In Hearts Wake. A staple of the scene that has found moderate success but hasn’t been able to fully break out. I’m not sure if it’s in the cards for them, but I’ve been listening for almost 10 years and wish them the best.
– Imminence put out an album earlier this year. It had a lot of hype at the time, but a lot of the fanfare seems to have died down. “Death By A Thousand Cuts” was one of the more memorable moments and they have re-recorded it with a feature from Holding Absence’s vocalist. The song is great, but it seems a little early to be revisiting music that was only released a few months ago.
