Playlist for May 27 – June 2, 2024
Quick playlist highlights:
– John Robert C. (previous vocalist of The Last Ten Seconds of Life) is killing it in Crystal Lake. Ryo Kinoshita was a monster, but John is incredibly talented himself. This song feels closer to Crystal Lake’s identity than other recent ones – I think they’ll dial their sound in even more as they continue working with John.
– Thrown has another new song. It’s good, but it’s one minute and thirty seconds long. Guys, for real, I’m starting to worry that Thrown actually can’t write a song longer than an intro. Their new album comes out on August 30. It will have 11 songs and we’ve already heard five of them. Those five songs last 10 minutes and 22 seconds. This album might legitimately be like 23 minutes long.
– It’s time for A Day To Remember to hang it up. Absolutely embarrassing music. The worst part is that they doubled down on making bad music and called out their fans in the chorus which says “If I wanna hear your feedback, I’ll let you know.” Well, whether they asked for the feedback or not, every single YouTube comment is negative. This song somehow sounds like an even worse version of what Asking Alexandria has been doing for the last few years. It doesn’t even sound like Jeremy on vocals anymore. Completely unrecognizable compared to the ADTR we grew up with.
– I’m normally not the biggest fan of Slaughter To Prevail‘s brand of deathcore because it can get a bit disorganized at times, but I’m liking this quite a bit. The guitar riffs bring a lot to the table and I’m surprised by how good the melodic parts sound.
– This is the most exciting song from Bury Tomorrow in a while. I hope they’re finally breaking away from the safe sound they’ve unfortunately settled into.
– Bonecarver is wild. Certain parts remind me of Acrania’s classic sound. They just released an EP and each song features a massive deathcore vocalist.
– fallingwithscissors put out an EP earlier this year that I’m just catching up on. Very cool sound if you like what Vein and Soulkeeper have been doing.
– Invent Animate just released the Definitive version of ‘Heavener.’ It features three new songs that weren’t on the album. This new one is fine. “Sleepless Deathbed” is easily the best of the three. This marks the end of the ‘Heavener’ era. Excited to see what they do next.
– Quick combo shout out for Tidebringer, Red Handed Denial, and Downpour for their recent releases. Not sure if I’ll do a full review or not, but they’re worth hearing. I’m especially enjoying Tidebringer right now – a lot of their screams remind me of Emmure which is amazing.
