Playlist for May 13 – 19, 2024
Quick playlist highlights:
– Get The Shot is outrageously fun. They placed #11 on my 2022 album of the year list. The vocalist has a unique sound and the samples they use in this song are great. LIGHT WEIGHT BABY!!!
– I randomly came across this God Program EP from 2020 and I can’t get enough of this song. Metalcore revival with great singing.
– Coldstate just released their debut EP. If you’re into progressive metalcore, you should check this out.
– Ameonna, Alex Koehler’s new band, is cranking out music. The instruments on this new one remind me of The Amity Affliction from 2014.
– I’m stoked to see Static Dress making more music. Their 2022 album opened me back up to this style of post hardcore with a hint of emo.
– Sedative is so heavy it’s silly. Reminds me of Orphan sometimes.
– Stray View is Dave Escamilla’s new band – he was the screamer in Crown The Empire from 2012-2017. I genuinely cannot believe that he didn’t get picked up by another huge band immediately after getting kicked out of CTE. Seven years later…I just think too much time has passed for people to care about this. They just signed to Hopeless Records though so I hope they prove me wrong, but we’ll see.
– The Gloom In The Corner is as energetic as always , but sometimes I wish they would chill out a bit. They jam so many things into their songs, it’s almost too crowded.
– A Night In Texas hasn’t been able to capitalize on the hype they had in 2017. I just haven’t been wowed by their newer stuff. I’m always happy to have more competent deathcore, but I hope they can find the spark again.
– Wage War released a super heavy song. I am so confused by their marketing strategy. They should have released this as the first single. I’m guessing the album will have a couple bangers but will mostly be misses.
– I don’t really understand the current iteration of Attack Attack! It’s not bad, but it was such a cash grab to resurrect the name that I can’t resist being a hater. Like, this is not what Attack Attack! is supposed to sound like. They should have created a new band, but they knew it wouldn’t get any traction, so now they’re tarnishing the memory of one of the most beloved metalcore bands ever.
