Seeyouspacecowboy // Songs For The Firing Squad

Seeyouspacecowboy released their debut album ‘Songs For The Firing Squad’ earlier this year and I’m liking it even more than I expected.  Along with Wristmeetrazor, they’re trying to revive the screamo genre and they’re doing a great job.

The album has 13 songs and clocks in at 18 minutes. I understand the short length might discourage someone from investing time in the band, but the songs are overflowing with content and after you experience the nonstop pummeling it has in store, I’m not sure how much more you would want to sign up for.

While Wristmeetrazor goes for the overwhelming emo sadness sound, Seeyouspacecowboy’s comes across as angry and aggressive.  Their vocalist never sounds like he’s going to cry and he doesn’t mess around with clean singing.  Instead, he matches the dryer instruments backing him, which reminds me of Norma Jean’s earlier material at some points.

I’m not sure if screamo will ever return to its glory days, but the teenager in me definitely gets excited to see bands not using spaces in their name and calling their songs ridiculous things like “Self Help Specialist Ends Own Life” and “I Am A Trans-Continental Railroad, Please Run A Train On Me”.
